Oct. 22, 2004

Florida Atlantic University's volleyball remained the only undefeated team in the Atlantic Sun conference on Friday night after defeating Mercer University 3-0 in Macon, GA (30-20-, 30-20, 30-25). The Lady Owls improved to 16-4, 6-0 A-Sun behind double-digit kills from Iana Andonova, Kelly Paiva and Cayse Kaveny. The Bears fall to 10-12, 3-4 A-Sun.

In game one the Bears did not record a positive hitting percentage thanks in part to Makra Condill's seven digs. The junior libero finished the night with a team-high 11, while recording her 15th straight game with 10 or more digs. Sophomore Janelle Sarauw (St. Thomas, V.I.) confused the Mercer defense from the right side with several quick plays and finished with six kills and only one error in game one.

FAU posted a team-high .438 hitting percentage in game two along with six blocks to stifle the Bears. Iana Andonova (Margate, FL) shut down Mercer three times in game two and completed the night with a season-high six blocks. The team finished with 10 blocks and has recorded 22 blocks in its lasts two matches.

Julie Darty pulled the Bears into the match in game three when she recorded five of her team-high nine kills. But Andonova took control of the game at 16-15 with one of her 10 kills in the game. She would close out the match with another kill from setter Courtenay Kiebert who finished with 46 assists. Her counterpart, Catie Clemens posted 30 assists for the Bears.
