![]() Volleyball Opens Conference Season
Oct. 2, 2003 After a grueling nonconference schedule to start the season, Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team is set to begin play in the Atlantic Sun Conference this weekend. On Friday the Owls will play Belmont (0-11) in Nashville, TN before heading across town to play new A-Sun member Lipscomb (2-13) on Saturday. In a preseason poll, FAU (5-9) was picked to finish third in the conference this season. The squad finished third in 2002 and narrowly missed the conference championship match after it fell to this year's favorite Georgia State in five games. Abby Miner (Largo, FL) and Iana Andonova (Margate, FL) lead the squad in kills with 169 and 142, respectively. Both players were named to the UConn Autumn Classic All-Tournament Team last weekend. Narrowing in on the FAU career assists record, senior Jeana Boyle has tallied 521 assists this season for a career total of 2,817, just 173 short of the record.
Currently, the team leads the A-Sun with 15.52 digs per game. Individually, Iana Anodnova leads the conference with 28 service aces.
