Above the Net

Saturday, September 29, 2007 9:30 p.m.

We finished this weekend 1-1. We started our first weekend of home matches yesterday versus University of South Alabama. The first two games were pretty close but we were playing very well. We won each of those 31-29. Our passing, defense, attacking, and serving were pretty solid. And we definitely were making obvious strides in our plays. South Alabama came back in game three and we made a couple of key mistakes which led to a loss. Game four was really intense. It was close the whole game. We were exchanging from 30 points on. Each time was siding-out pretty solidly off of swings. Alabama took the close one, 39-37. Game five was pretty close too. Alabama got to 8 first for the switch, but we came back with some key kills and blocks. Mallory Deneen and Krystena Castro were both playing really aggressively which helped tremendously. They led the intensity on the court. It was a good win.

This afternoon we took on Troy. We went into this match a little unfocused and did not execute on the plays that we needed to. Troy beat us 3 games to 0 for the match. Our serving was pretty good, however we did not come out aggressive on offense or defense and that cost us the match.

SPECIAL THANKS: We would like to thank all of our fans who made it out to both of our matches. To have our games moved off-campus and still have a gym full of fans is a pretty spectacular thing. All of us felt the crowd, especially on Friday night. And even today you guys were throwing off the other team. I saw a couple of the Troy girls smiling on their serves. I don't know what you were yelling, but it was working. Thank you for continually supporting us. It truly means a lot. We hope to see you at the new gymnasium and we'll pull out a win for you guys next time!
