![]() Volleyball Opens Season at Home on Friday
Sept. 4, 2003 The DoubleTree Boca Bash will get underway this Friday at FAU Gymnasium, as Maryland, USF, The Citadel and Florida Atlantic University will meet in a round-robin tournament. The tournament will be FAU's home opener as the Owls take on USF at 7 pm on Friday in Boca Raton. USF (2-1) enters the weekend as the only team with a winning record and will meet FAU (0-3) for the 12th time in history. The Bulls hold an 11-0 advantage in previous matches. The Bulls defeated Atlantic Sun conference member Stetson and needed five-games to dispose of Georgia after losing their first match of the season to Loyola-Chicago. This weekend will be the first road games for USF this season. The Citadel and Maryland will face Florida Atlantic for the first time on Saturday at 12:30 and 7:00 pm, respectively. The Citadel enters the weekend with an 0-3 record after falling to Charleston Southern, Navy and South Carolina State this past week. Maryland opened the season with a tournament at home featuring Tennessee, Villanova and no. 25 Michigan State. The Terps picked up a 3-0 victory against Villanova Kelly Paiva who has 34 kills in three matches for 3.09 kills/game leads Florida Atlantic's offense. Jeana Boyle continues to climb her way up the assists chart after posting 95 last weekend. Boyle is second on FAU's career assists list with 2,391 assists in her two plus seasons. Heather Chandler ('96-'99) holds the record with 2,990.
