Volleyball Advances at A-Sun Tournament

Nov. 22, 2002

Final Stats

For the seventh consecutive year, Florida Atlantic University advanced to the semifinal round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament. It took a five-game victory over Troy State University for the Owls to advance to the 7 pm semifinal against Georgia State University. Abby Miner, Iana Andonova and Giovana Milaneze each recorded career-high kills, while Jeana Boyle tallied 66 assists in the 30-25, 23-30, 30-20, 26-30, 15-13.

In the second meeting of the season, the Owls (14-16) defeated the Trojans (20-11) for the second time in five-games. Game one was one of momentum as FAU trailed 19-22 before going on a five point run behind the serving of Abby Miner. Four errors by TSU and a Milaneze kill gave FAU the lead for good at 24-22. Milaneze collected six kills in game one and finished with 13, tying her career-high.

FAU posted their lowest hitting percentage in game two (.135) and saw TSU take over the game when they took their first lead at 17-16 and never look back as they went on a 13-7 run to finish out the game.

The two teams split the next two games before an exciting finish. Troy State took a 13-11 lead in the contest to 15. After FAU head coach Jody Brown called a timeout, the Owls' Iana Andonova took over and recorded two kills on back-threes. The Freshman-of-the-Year then teamed with Abby Miner for the final point when they blocked the TSU attack.

For the Owls, Abby Miner collected a match-high 25 kills, Iana Andonova tallied 24 and Boyle posted a career-high 66 assists.

Rachel Hassan, First Team All-Conference, posted 25 kills, while Haven Triboulet lead the Trojans with 16 digs.
