Owls Fall to MTSU at Sun Belt Tournament

In the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament in Denton, TX, Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to no. 1 seed Middle Tennessee 29-31, 20-30, 25-30. The Owls were led by Krystena Castro's 14 kills and four blocks and finish the season with an 11-18 record.

The Owls hung with the Blue Raiders in game one and tied the score at 28. FAU took a one-point lead on a Castro kill before MTSU roared back with the next three points on a Jessica Robinson kill, an FAU attacking error and a Leslie Clark kill to take game one. Clark finished with 11 kills in the match.

The Middle Tennessee (24-7) offense found its rhythm in game two and hit .351 in the match by only committing five errors. Ashley Adams collected eight of her match-high 23 kills in the frame. She finished the afternoon with a .500 hitting percentage by committing only six errors in 34 attempts.

FAU trailed early in game three before going on a six-point rally to bring the game to 17-15 on a kill by Justine Petry. The junior middle blocker had her best game as she finished with five of her nine kills in game three. She also held the highest team hitting percentage in the match at .412.

Libero Nikki Hartman led the Florida Atlantic defense with nine digs, while MTSU's Ashley Waugh finished with a match-high 12 digs.

Iana Andonova and Cassi Ociesa both closed out their FAU careers. The two were a part of the first FAU team to play in the Sun Belt Conference.
