FAU Ends Regular Season with 3-0 Loss

Nov. 11, 2003

Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team closed out the regular season on Tuesday night as the Owls fell to Florida International 27-30, 24-30, 27-30. The Golden Panthers took their third consecutive win over FAU despite a 13-kill effort from FAU's Iana Andonova.

The Owls (12-15) held a 26-25 advantage over FIU (13-13) in game one before the Golden Panthers went on a 5-1 run to close out the game. Adriana Fundora collected one of her match-high 16 kills in the run followed by a block to help take the early 1-0 advantage.

The only lead that FAU would see in the final two games would be at 1-0 in game two on a Janelle Sarauw (St. Thomas, V.I.) kill. The freshman teamed with Cayse Kaveny (Cupertino, CA) on two of the team's six blocks. But FIU owned the net with 10 blocks and 47 kills. The Owls' defense picked up 46 digs but it was not enough to keep the team from dropping its second match of the season to the Golden Panthers.

Makra Condill (Crystal Lake, IL), the FAU libero was the only player to post double-digit digs with 13.

Jeana Boyle (Boca Raton, FL) and Krista Klawitter (Bowmanville, Ontario) split time at setter, while Betsy Moreland ran the Florida International offense with 34 assists.

Florida Atlantic will enter the Atlantic Sun Tournament on November 21 as the no. 5 seed. The Owls will take on no. 4 Mercer at 11 am. The winner of the match will face no. 1 UCF at 5 pm.
