Owls Fly By FIU

Nov. 2, 2005

Final Stats

Kelly Paiva finished with 20 kills and 13 digs as Florida Atlantic University defeated Florida International University 30-16, 30-27, 30-17 Wednesday evening at Pharmed Arena. The double-double was the 19th of the season for the senior and brings her kills per game average up to 5.88 to lead the nation in that category.

The Owls (25-2) held the Golden Panthers to a .069 hitting percentage with aggressive serving. FAU posted 10 service aces and only one error for the second time in the last three matches. Paiva led the way with three aces, while Katie Arvidson, Dimitra Samas and Makra Condill each added two of their own.

With 20 of FAU's 33 kills, FIU (12-12) was unable to stop Paiva. The outside hitter only committed two errors and finished with a .391 hitting percentage.

FIU's offense was a little more evenly distributed with Mina Spasojevic finishing with 12 kills and Anita Szymanka adding 10. Libero Carolina Cano ran the back row with 19 digs.

The meeting was the second of the season between the two teams. FAU pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Golden Panthers on August 27 at FAU Gym.

The Owls will honor their seniors and host East Tennessee State University on Saturday at 2 pm at FAU Gym.
