Owls Take Five-Game Match from UCF

Nov. 1, 2006

Final Stats

Behind a career-high 25 dig effort from Nikki Hartman and a career-high 22 kills from Krystena Castro, Florida Atlantic University outlasted UCF Wednesday night in FAU Arena 3-2 (30-24, 22-30, 26-30, 30-12, 15-9). The Owls improve to 9-16, while the Golden Knights fall to 5-19.

The Owls came out and took game one as the Golden Knights committed five service errors and six attacking errors. The FAU offense stumbled in game two and UCF hung on for game three to take a 2-1 lead.

The UCF offense committed 15 attacking errors in game four and the Owls picked up four blocks and three service aces, two by Casey LaRocca, to take game four easily and carry the momentum into the final game.

Game five was tied at 2-2 before Kaila Janssen served the next six points to give the Owls a cushion. Three of Castro's 22 kills came during the run and the Owls took the match against a former Atlantic Sun Conference rival.

Kaila Janssen and Justine Petry also finished with double-digit kills for FAU. Janssen tallied 15 kills and a .452 hitting percentage by only committing one error, while Petry followed with 13 kills. She also contributed a match-high eight blocks.

The Golden Knights were led by a 23-kill performance from outside hitter Lorin Lukas. She picked up a double-double by adding a team-high 16 digs.

FAU will return to conference play on Friday when it travels to Florida International for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Golden Panthers.
