Volleyball Honors Seniors

Nov. 1, 2003

Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University honored four seniors on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls took on Georgia State University in the final home match of the season. Giovana Milaneze, Abby Miner, Jeana Boyle and Ashley Waggoner extended senior day as long as possible before falling in four games to the Panthers 19-30, 30-22, 26-30, 32-30.

GSU (25-6, 8-1 A-Sun) took game one easily before FAU gained the momentum and jumped out to a five-point lead at 14-9 in game two on a Janelle Sarauw (St. Thomas, V.I.) kill. Sarauw finished with 10 kills and four blocks in the match.

After trailing in game three, Florida Atlantic (11-13, 5-3 A-Sun) tied it up at 11-11 on a Iana Andonova (Margate, FL) service ace. The sophomore middle blocker collected two of the team's four aces. The Panthers pulled ahead again and finished off the game to take a 2-1 lead on a Ana Paula Ferreira solo block.

Game four went down to the wire before an FAU attacking error at 31-30 gave GSU its third straight win over the Owls. When the two teams met last season at the A-Sun Tournament, GSU needed a 17-15 fifth game win to move to the Championship Match at the tournament.

Andonova led all hitters with 21 kills and a .562 hitting percentage, while Jeana Boyle (Boca Raton, FL) collected her second double-double in as many nights with a match-high 11 digs and 64 assists.

GSU was led by Amanda Sapp's 18 kills from the middle and twin sister Molly's 11 digs.

FAU travels to Stetson and Jacksonville on Thursday and Saturday to close out Atlantic Sun play. The Owls need one more win to secure a spot in the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
