Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University's middle hitters, Jessica Kahn and Iana Andonova, guided the Owls to a three-game victory over Atlantic Sun member Belmont University Saturday night at FAU Gym. Both players recorded 14 kills as FAU defeated the Bruins 30-27, 30-20, 30-26.

Belmont (4-18, 0-8) gave the home team quite a scare in game one as they rallied from a 20-10 deficit to bring the game within two points at 27-25. Two kills by junior Giovana Milaneze (Lake Worth, FL) gave the Owls a 29-25 advantage before Belmont scored two points of their own on kills by Kristen Moore and Britney Baggett to bring the game within two once more at 29-27. The Owls were able to put game one away on the first play off of serve receive when Kahn connected with setter Jeana Boyle for the game one victory.

Belmont used a scrappy defense to take the lead in game two and led by as many as four before FAU regained control and out-hit the Bruins in game two .366 to .054. Florida Atlantic used the momentum to cruise to the three game victory, never relinquishing the lead in game three.

FAU topped the Bruins in the offensive categories while Belmont controlled the defensive stats with three more digs and one more block than the Owls.

Kahn and Andonova both finished with 14 kills for the Owls. Boyle dished out 44 assists while sophomore Lindsey Bell led the team defensively with a career-high 19 digs.

Belmont had two players record double-digit kills. BritneyBaggett finished the night with 11 kills, while Lindsay Cleveland collected a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs.

Florida Atlantic has the week off before traveling to Troy State for a noon match on October 26.
