FAU Volleyball Overpowered By St. John's

Oct. 16, 2001

Final Stats

With three starters not dressed for the match, Florida Atlantic University (8-10, 5-0 A-Sun) couldn't find players to step up and fill the void as they fell to St. John's University (15-2). The only categories that FAU controlled were blocking and service aces as they posted eight services on the night. Otherwise, the Red Storm overpowered the short-staffed Lady Owl team and took the 32-30, 30-23, 30-27 win.

Florida Atlantic trailed for all of game one before tying it at 27 off of a Lindsay Overton kill. The two teams traded points and then St. John's Kristy Mercein collected two of her game-high 14 kills to give the Red Storm a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Owls were again able to keep the game close early and tie the score at 15 before aggressive serving by the Red Storm setter, Robyn Kurasaki put FAU behind 23-16. The Lady Owls were never able to regain their composure and dropped game three.

Lindsey Bell (Colorado Springs, CO) took advantage of extra playing time and tallied 14 digs. Gracie Heim (Indian Harbour Beach, FL) and freshman Lindsay Overton (Montrose, AL) each recorded 10 kills. Heim was one block shy of a school-record eight blocks in a match.

Two undefeated A-Sun teams will meet Friday when FAU hosts rival UCF at 7 pm
