Volleyball Slides by Stetson 3-0

Final Stats

An amazing 36-34 first game victory highlighted Florida Atlantic University's three-game victory over Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson University as the Owls defeated the Hatters 36-34, 30-23, 30-22 for the second time this season. With the win FAU improves to 6-2 in conference play and 11-12 overall. Stetson falls to 9-11, 5-2 A-Sun.

Florida Atlantic University started the match slowly but woke up quickly as the visiting team took an early game one lead. The Hatters took their largest lead in game one at 18-11 and never trailed until FAU fought back to tie it for the first time at 29. The teams traded points until FAU took its first lead at 35-34 on an Abby Miner kill before a Stetson hitting error gave FAU the game and the Owls never looked back.
 

 

FAU never trailed in game two as Stetson only mustered a .093 hitting percentage. The Hatters fought back in game three to take an 8-6 lead when Meghan Wright connected on a kill. Florida Atlantic quickly overcame the deficit at 8-8 and took game three to stay undefeated against A-Sun teams at home this season.

Miner, a junior from Largo, FL, posted a match-high 16 kills. Iana Andonova (Margate, FL) also finished the night with double digit kills when she tallied 10 kills.

Stetson had three players posted double-digit kills. Kira Smedley led the way with 15 kills, followed by Michelle Clonan with 15 and DeeAnn Dempsey added 12. Smedley finished the night with a double-double by picking up a match-high 15 digs.

Jeana Boyle (Boca Raton, FL) ran the FAU offense as she delivered 43 assists. Her counterpart, Tanner Kennedy, dished out 46 assists for the Hatters.

Florida Atlantic continues home conference play on Saturday when they host Belmont at 7 pm.
