Petry Records Seven Blocks in Loss to Western Kentucky

Oct. 14, 2006

Final Stats

Justine Petry posted seven blocks against reigning Sun Belt Conference Champion Western Kentucky University, but Florida Atlantic University was unable to pull out a win. The Owls fell 3-1 (16-30, 27-30, 33-31, 19-30) to the Lady Toppers. FAU falls to 7-13, 4-6 SBC, while WKU improves to 18-7, 7-1 SBC.

With two starters out with injuries for FAU, the Owls got off to a rough start in game one. The team finished with a .000 hitting percentage in the frame but fought back in game two. Florida Atlantic tied the game at 24 on a Krystena Catro kill and took a brief lead before WKU went on a 6-3 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In game three, FAU jumped out to a 15-8 lead and then saw WKU chip away at the lead to tie the contest at 24. The teams battled to a 31-31 tie before a Western Kentucky error and a Casey LaRocca service aces gave the Owls their first game. LaRocca (St. Louis, MO) finished with four service aces.

Leading for most of game four, WKU took the match on one of the team's seven blocks.

FAU won the blocking battle and tallied 13 in the contest. Petry (Trumansburg, NY) finished with three solo blocks and four block assists to lead the Owls. The junior also led the team with 12 kills along with Kaila Janssen. Libero Nikki Hartman finished with 15 digs.

All-American Megan Argabright led WKU with 26 kills and a .605 hitting percentage. Jenna Gideon followed with 20 kills and a .438 hitting percentage.

FAU hits the road again next weekend when the team travels to Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State.
