Volleyball Drops Match to Miami

Oct. 12, 2004

Final Stats

The University of Miami used 51 kills and 50 digs to defeat Florida Atlantic University 3-0 (30-22, 30-18, 30-22) Tuesday night in Coral Gables. Iana Andonova and Kelly Paiva led FAU with 15 and 11 kills, respectively, while libero Makra Condill picked up 13 digs as FAU fell to 13-4. Miami improves to 8-6.

UM jumped out to a 10-4 lead in game one before an Andonova ended the run and FAU brought the score to within two. The Hurricanes then pulled away for the game one win despite the Owls' highest hitting percentage of the match at .263.

FAU rebounded in game two and started with a 5-9 lead before Miami countered back to tie the game at 13 and take the lead on a mishandled Owls' ball. UM went on an eight-point run at that time using four kills from Ashley Youngs to take the 21-13 lead and eventually the game.

Leading for all of game three, UM handed FAU its second consecutive loss for the first time this season.

Florida Atlantic returns to FAU Gym to host A-Sun member Liscomb and Belmont on Friday and Saturday at 7 pm and 1 pm, respectively. The Owls remain unbeaten in conference play heading into the weekend.
