Volleyball Back On Track in the A-Sun

Oct. 10, 2002

Final Stats

A season-high 12 digs from Danyielle Smith along with a match-high five aces proved to be too much as Florida Atlantic University (9-12, 4-2 A-Sun) defeated Gardner-Webb University (2-18,1-4 A-Sun) in four games Thursday night 30-18, 30-25, 27-30, 30-15. FAU improved to 4-2 in the A-Sun and 9-12 overall. Gardner-Webb drops to 2-18, 1-4 A-Sun.

The Owls took the first two games easily as they collected 30 kills to Gardner-Webb's 21. The Bulldogs committed 19 errors and did not hit over .060 in either game. GSU battled back in game three after a 21-21 tie to take the game 30-27.

An early 7-1 lead quickly turned into a 21-9 margin in game four as FAU posted a .424 average with 19 kills and only 5 errors. Abby Miner(Largo, FL) finished the night with a match-high 20 kills. Miner has tallied 20 or more kills four times in her junior season.

Four Florida Atlantic players recorded double-digit digs as they led their opponents 62-52 in digs. The Owls also out-blocked GWU 11-6 as Jessica Kahn (Apopka, FL) dominated the net with three block solos and three block assists.

Talia Ogle, a freshman from Huntsville, AL, led the Bulldogs with 18 kills, a .350 hitting percentage and 12 digs.

FAU travels to Buies Creek, NC on Saturday for a 2 pm match against A-Sun member Campbell.
