Volleyball Earns A-Sun Win Over Troy

Florida Atlantic University opened Atlantic Sun Conference play on Saturday night with a 3-1 win over the visiting Troy Trojans. Each game that FAU gained the early it advantage it took the win to improve to 11-2, 1-0 A-Sun, while Troy falls to 3-12, 0-3 A-Sun.

FAU used numerous runs to earn its ninth straight victory over Troy. Down 12-16 in game one, Kelly Paiva served nine straight points to give the Owls a 21-16 advantage. During that run Cayse Kaveny (Cupertino, CA) connected with Courtenay Kiebert (Hope, ID) for three of her16 kills on the night.

The middle hitters dominated the net for FAU for a total of 36 of the team's 55 kills. Iana Andonova (Margate, FL) finished the match with a game-high 20 kills and six service aces.
 

 

The Trojans fought back in game two to out-hit the Owls, who committed nine attacking errors and only mustered a .098 attacking percentage compared to Troy's .278.

FAU's blocking in game three and four game them the advantage as the team rolled by the Trojans 30-20 and 30-11 in the final two games.

Lindsey Bell (Colorado Springs, CO) served the first eight points of the fourth game and collected two service aces. The senior outside hitter also finished with 18 digs just behind the 22 digs of libero Makra Condill (Crystal Lake, IL).

Troy was led by Amy Brisbin's 16 kills and Bridge Reidy's 21 digs.

Florida Atlantic makes its first conference road trip next weekend when it heads to North Carolina to face Gardner-Webb and Campbell on Friday and Saturday.
