FAU Can't Mount Comeback In 3-1 Loss To UCF
Oct. 2, 2001 In the first of two meetings this season with conference rival University of Central Florida (8-2 , 1-0 A-Sun), Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team (4-9, 1-0 A-Sun) couldn't mount a comeback to overtake the Knights in a four-game match (23-30, 13-30, 30-26, 27-30). FAU's middle hitters, Gracie Heim and Jessica Kahn, were the bright light as both had double-digit kills, 14 and 11, respectively. In a game that did not count towards conference records, the Knights hit .372 as a team to dominate the match. The Lady Owls were able to out-hit UCF in game three in order to take away the 3-0 win. Heim (Indian Harbour Beach, FL) had her fourth straight match with double digit kills and her second straight with 14 kills. She also posted a .440 hitting percentage to go with 3 blocks. Kahn (Apopka, FL) posted a .375 average with one block. Defensively, the Owls were led by Jeana Boyle (Boca Raton, FL) and Ashley Bodily (Freemont, CA) with 13 and 11 digs. Boyle also distributed 39 assists. UCF had five hitters that held an average above .300. Tanya Jarvis topped the group with an impressive .448 hitting percentage with 17 kills. Leyre Santaella Sante tallied 27 kills in four games.
The Lady Owls will host Mercer University on Friday at 7 pm in their second conference match of the season.
