Productive Day for Petry

Oct. 1, 2005

Final Stats

Dropping its second match in as many days, Florida Atlantic University will be leaving the Courtyard by Marriott LIU Classic with a 16-2 record. On the final day of action, FAU defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3-1 before dropping a 3-1 match to the University of Northern Colorado.

Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Justine Petry continued to have a great weekend. The Trumansburg, NY native is making herself at home in Brooklyn. She put up a career-high 21 kills and eight blocks against the Islanders as FAU took the match 30-19, 30-20, 26-30, 30-14.

The Owls held TAMUCC (5-6) to a .110 hitting percentage, partially due to 12 blocks. It is the third straight match that FAU has shut down its opponents more than 10 times.

10 service aces also helped FAU earn the win. Katie Arvidson (Franklin, TN) and Kelly Paiva (Minas Gerais, Brazil) both finished with three aces, while Casey LaRocca (St. Louis, MO) finished with two.

Krista Klawitter was an instrumental part of the defense with a season-high 17 digs. Kelly Paiva and Makra Condill added 17 and 15, respectively as the Owls finished with 65 digs.

LaRocca finished with 46 assists to raise her season average to 11.60 assists per game.

The Owls suffered their loss to the Bears (7-8) in four games, 30-26, 24-30, 30-23, 31-29. The statistics ended fairly even but UNC's defense managed 12 more digs than FAU. Abby Mayne finished with an impressive 29 digs for Northern Colorado.

FAU's Makra Condill led the team with 20 digs followed by Kelly Paiva's 16 and Dimitra Samas' 12.

Paiva finished with another double-double by adding 30 kills. It is the fourth time this season that the senior has posted over 30 kills in a match. She was named to the All-Tournament Team after finishing the weekend with 79 kills, six aces and 63 digs.

Florida Atlantic will return to its home court on Wednesday when the team faces the University of North Florida in a non-conference matchup at 5 pm. The Owls are undefeated at FAU Gym this season.
