First Road Win for Owls in Sun Belt Conference

Final Stats

In its first road contest in the Sun Belt Conference, Florida Atlantic University defeated the University of South Alabama 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-26) on Friday night in Mobile, AL. Janelle Sarauw led a strong offensive night for the Owls with 16 kills. FAU finished the contest with a .336 hitting percentage, while holding the Jaguars to a .217 hitting percentage.

FAU (6-8, 3-1 SBC) never trailed after the 10 point mark in each game as the team controlled the net offensively and defensively with eight blocks. Freshman Krystena Castro (Nanuet, NY) finished the night with a career-high five blocks.

Casey LaRocca (St. Louis, MO) was able to keep the Jaguars (5-11, 0-4 SBC) out of system as she collected a career-high six service aces and finished with 36 assists in the winning effort.

Kaila Janssen (Whitdy, Ontario, Canada) finished with a double-double for FAU as she picked up 10 kills and 14 digs in her new role as an outside hitter. Freshmen dominated the backrow play as Lauren Ditscheit (Wauwatosa, WI) and Nikki Hartman (Deltona, FL) added 10 and 12 kills, respectively.

USA was led by Jenna Swilley with 11 kills and Taylor Irvin with 11 digs.

On Saturday, the Owls travel to Troy, AL to face Troy University in conference play at 3 p.m. et.
