Volleyball Closes out UNCG Tournament with Two Wins

Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University closed out the UNCG Tournament on Saturday with wins over UNC Asheville and UNC Greensboro. FAU improves to 9-2 behind the efforts of Iana Andonova and Kelly Paiva who were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Andonova led the attack for the weekend with 70 kills while Paiva followed close behind with 60 kills, 3 service aces, 42 digs and 15 blocks.

After winning the first two games 30-24, 30-28 against UNC Asheville (5-9), FAU dropped games three and four 28-30, 23-30 before claiming a 17-15 game five victory over the Bulldogs.

FAU's trio of Andonova, Paiva and Cayse Kaveny again led the team offensively with 30, 15 and 19 kills, respectively. A very rounded defense saw five players pick up double-digit digs with libero Makra Condill collecting 20 followed by Lindsey Bell and Courtenay Kiebert with 16, Kelly Paiva posted 14 and defensive specialist Lauren McHugh finished with 12.
 

 

Kiebert finished with a double-double with her 66 assists and 16 digs.

Against the host team UNC Greensboro (2-13), the Owls pulled out a quick 30-22, 30-21, 30-24 win over the Spartans. Paiva's double-double was the second of the day for the junior outside hitter as she finished with 20 kills and 11 digs.

FAU returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Florida International on Wednesday night. The Owls then open Atlantic Sun Conference play on Saturday when they host Troy University at 7 pm.
