FAU Wins First Match Of The Season

Sept. 18, 2001

Gracie Heim (Indian Harbour Beach, FL) led Florida Atlantic University (1-6) with 20 kills in a 3-0 win over the University of Miami (3-4). Heim also contributed four block assists.

In the first home match of the season, also the first win, the Lady Owls were able to use the crowd to their advantage to pull out the 30-25, 31-29, 30-25 victory. "Playing at home was nice. We have been getting up first by 10 or 12 all season. The crowd was great and possibly made the difference for us to finish it out," said Jody Brown, seventh year head coach for FAU.

The Lady Owls were able to pull out the victory by out-hitting their opponent for the first time this season. FAU connected on 52 kills and finished with a hitting percentag of .172. Jeana Boyle (Olympic Heights) was able to find the hot hand as she dished out 38 assists. Boyle has consistently been the team leader on the floor for the team. "Jeana is only going to get better," Brown said. Defensively, Ashley Bodily picked up 15 digs for the Lady Owls.

FAU will play two home matches this weekend, hosting Stetson and Western Kentucky on Friday and Saturday.
