FAU Splits Day Two of Air Force Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team split its two matches on the final day of the Air Force Invitational.

FAU swept North Carolina Central in its first match of the day. The Owls got out to a 5-0 lead in the first set, but the Eagles tied the set at 14. FAU closed on an 11-1 run to take the set 25-15. In the second set, FAU fell behind 11-7 the scored six consecutive points to take a 13-11 lead. NCCU tied things up at 13. The set was tied at 20 when FAU took five of the next seven points, the final two coming on kills by Krystena Dzmuranova to win the set 25-22. The Owls won the third set 25-10. Morgan Johns had two service aces to end the match. Johns ended the match with 19 kills, 10 digs and four service aces.

The Owls were defeated by the Kent State Golden Flashes in five sets in their final match of the tournament. The first set was tied at 8 when FAU launched a 10-4 run to take a 18-12 lead. KSU pulled within two at 22-20 but were held off and lost set one 25-22. Set two was a back and forth affair all the way that featured seven lead changes and 14 ties, the final one coming at 25, before kills by Dzmuranova and Kala Abdell gave FAU a 27-25 win.

KSU took the next three sets to win the match. Johns posted her second double-double of the day with 14 kills and 12 digs. Anne Vaughan (12) and Krystena Castro also had double-digit kills on the weekend. FAU (7-3) won three of its four matches on the weekend. The Owls return home next weekend when they face the University of Miami on Saturday, September 20 at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available via GameTracker at fausports.com.
