Final Stats

A great first game fell short and Florida Atlantic University (2-6) did not have enough juice to pull out a win over Montana State University (6-2) Saturday night at Shroyer Gym. Abby Miner led the team for the second match of the day to earn All-Tournament honors.

An early four-point lead turned into a 15-10 lead for Florida Atlantic in game one as the Owls came out swinging. The Bobcats rallied back to tie the game at 16 and neither team led by more than 2 points throughout the remainder of the game as MSU took game one 30-28 in FAU's best played game of the tournament. The offense was firing on all cylinders as middles Jessica Kahn and Iana Andonova both collected four kills and outside Abby Miner lead the team with six in the first game.

Two MSU rallies in the second game hurt the Owls as the Bobcats scored seven straight to go up 7-1. FAU decreased the deficit to 20-15 but a 6-1 run to go up 26-16 was too much for FAU to overcome as the quick MSU offense created holes in the Florida Atlantic defense. MSU posted a .423 hitting percentage behind six kills from senior middle blocker Aimee Halyk.

Montana State, who lost its earlier game of the day to Eastern Michigan, took control of the match as they hit .423 and added three blocks to bring its match total to 11. Abby Miner added four more kills to bring her total to 14 to lead both teams. Miner also led FAU with eight digs. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts on the weekend. The junior from Largo, FL led the team with 42 kills and a .231 average. She was second in service aces with two and added 20 digs.

FAU will travel to in-state rival Florida International on Tuesday for a 7 pm match. The Owls will try to avenge their two losses lost season to the
