Andonova Breaks FAU Kills Record

Sept. 2, 2006

Final Stats

Fort Collins, CO - With 16 kills against Colorado State at the Colorado State Coors Invitational, senior Iana Andonova broke the Florida Atlantic University career kills record. The outside hitter finished the day with 28 kills to bring her career total to 1,287.

The team closed out the tournament on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Colorado State (17-30, 25-30, 23-30) and Wake Forest (18-30, 27-30, 25-30).

Against the Rams in the first match of the afternoon, Andonova picked up her record-breaking 16 kills and Katie Arvidson (Franklin, TN) added nine of her own. Arvidson finished with a .350 hitting percentage to lead the team. The sophomore led the Atlantic Sun Conference a year ago in that category. Freshman Lauren Ditscheit (Wauwatosa, WI) was part of each of FAU's four blocks.

CSU (3-2) finished the game with a .347 team hitting percentage. Tessa Nelson finished with 15 kill, while three players finished with double-digit digs for the Rams.

Against Wake Forest (2-1) in the final match of the tournament, Janelle Sarauw posted a match-high 17 kills. Andonova followed with 12 kills and freshman middle hitter Krystena Castro (Nanuet, NY) added 11 as FAU posted its highest hitting percentage of the season at .224.

A .514 hitting percentage in game two was a major factor for the offense, but Wake Forest used eight service aces, 53 digs and seven blocks to defeat the Owls in three games.

Andonova was named to the All-Tournament Team after she finished with 45 kills (5.00 kills/game) and three blocks in the tournament.

FAU (0-6) will be on the road again next weekend when the team travels to the University of Iowa for the Hawkeye Holiday Inn Challenge. The Owls will face Missouri-Kansas City, Tulane and Iowa in the two-day event.
