Volleyball Falls in Three

Sept. 2, 2002

Final Stats

In Florida Atlantic University's fifth match in four days, the Owls looked sluggish as they took a 3-0 loss to Eastern Washington University (4-0). EWU had four players post over a .400 hitting percentage as they accumulated a .420 average as a team.

FAU (2-3) hung with the Eagles throughout the first part of game one as they tied it at 12. The hitting of EWU's Kristy Chester extinguished the hopes of the Owls as she tallied six kills in seven attempts in game one to lead the Eagles to a 30-20 victory.

In game two FAU again showed that they could play with Eastern Washington throughout the first eight points, but EWU began to use the quick attack to take advantage of a less experienced Owl block. A 5-0 run gave the Eagles some breathing room to increase the score to 18-10 and posted four aces in the game as they never looked back.

After scoring the first point in game three, the Owls would never lead again as EWU took the 30-20, 30-21, 30-15 in FAU's last home match until September 13.

Abby Miner led FAU with 11 kills while Makra Condill led the Owls in digs for the third time in five matches.

FAU will travel to the Montana State Mizuno/Holiday Inn Classic to play Eastern Michigan on Friday and Gonzaga and Montana State on Saturday.
