Women's Tennis Strong in A-Sun

April 28, 2004

Macon, GA - Florida Atlantic University's women's tennis players Alena Dvorakova and Karolina Roubickova were named first team All-Atlantic Sun Conference Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the league office. Meanwhile, freshman Katherine Bartnik was named to the All-Freshman team. The tandem of Dvorakova and Roubickova anchored FAU's top two spots. Dvorakova occupied the no. 1 position, while Roubickova steadied the no. 2 spot. The two paired in doubles at no. 1.

Dvorakova, a junior from Prague, Czech Republic, was the Lady Owls' top player, winning 20 consecutive singles matches on way to a 20-2 dual match record. Dvorakova ended her year ranked no. 77 in singles competition.

Roubickova, also from Prague, Czech Republic, ended the year with an 11-4 record. The senior finished her career winning nine of her last 10 matches. When combined with Dvorakova in doubles, the pair had a team-best 13-5 record at no. 1.

Bartnik, a freshman from Bradenton, FL, joined the team in mid-semester, making an immediate impact. Bartnik ended the season with an 8-6 record, primarily at no. 6. She also won both of her matches in the A-Sun Tournament.

As a team, FAU finished ranked no. 71 with a 16-6 record. The Lady Owls fell in the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament.

FAU joined Jacksonville and Georgia State with the most players named to the first team.
