Winter Park, FL - Florida Atlantic University senior tennis player Alena Dvorakova took the women's singles title at the C.L. Varner Invitational on Sunday, defeating second-seeded Tasi Purcell of hosts Rollins College 6-4, 6-3 in the championship match.

Dvorakova, originally from the Czech Republic, lost a total of only 16 games in her five tournament matches and did not drop a set.

"Alena played very well this week," said Owls tennis coach Alex Alcantara after the completion of the tournament. "F.J. Schofield also had a pretty good run."

Schofield, a senior from Glendale, Arizona, narrowly lost 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 to Florida Southern's Milos Koprivica in Sunday's men's semifinals while freshman Pia Terol fell in the women's consolation final 6-3, 6-0.
