BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University defeated Drake University, 4-2, Friday in non-conference women's tennis action in Boca Raton, FL. The win pushed FAU's record to 5-9 on the year. In addition, FAU's Alena Dvorakova, ranked no. 98 in the nation, extended her singles winning streak to 11 matches with a contest-clinching straight sets victory at no. 1. The Owls won two of the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the contest. The Bulldogs (5-9) won the first match at no. 2. FAU then picked up a victory at no. 1 when Dvorakova and Elodie Wendling defeated Zorana Stefanovic and Allison Wilkie 9-7. Claudia Kecht and Pia Terol followed with an 8-6 win over Irina Kalashnikova and Daria Zawislak at no. 3 to clinch the first point of the match.
In singles, Kecht was the first to finish her match, in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cheen Alkahatib at no. 4 that made it 2-0 FAU. Wendling then made it 3-0 when she defeated Kaslashnikova, 6-2, 6-3, at no. 3. Drake came back with wins at no. 6 and no. 2 to pull to within 3-2. The match ended when Dvorakova, who trailed in both sets, defeated Stefanovic, 6-4, 6-4, to improve her overall record in singles to 18-3. The no. 5 match between Terol and Wilkie did not finish. Florida Atlantic next hosts Arkansas-Little Rock Sunday at 11:00am.
