BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University upped its winning streak to eight matches with a 6-1 victory over Columbia University Thursday in Boca Raton. The win improves the Lady Owls to 11-4 on the year. FAU began the match by winning the doubles' point. Jessica Burrow and Tania Rivera defeated Columbia's Shelly Mittal and Lucia Aniello, 8-2, at no. 2. At no. 3, Alena Dvorakova and Maria Aguirre-Gomez defeated the team of Kristin Martinez and Ilene Weintraub, 8-4. The Lady Owls won five of the six singles matches as Dvorakova picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Mittal at no. 1. Other winners for FAU included Karolina Roubickova at no.4. The sophomore defeated Kristin Martinez, 6-2, 6-1, to remain perfect on the year. Roubickova, who is ranked no. 109 in the nation, is now 14-0 this season. Meanwhile, Stephanie Beaulieu extended her personal winning streak to six with a straigt sets victory at no. 5. Aguirre-Gomez and Rivera also won for the Lady Owls.
Florida Atlantic next hosts Northern Iowa Saturday at Noon.
