Women's Tennis Edged by Boston College

March 7, 2003

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University dropped a nail-biter, 4-3, on Friday afternoon to Boston College at FAU Courts. Coming into the match, FAU and BC were tied in the ITA tennis poll at no. 75. The match held up to its billing as the two teams exchanged blows for five hours and fifteen minutes until finally BC slipped by. The Eagles won the last and decisive match in a tiebreaker. Overall, the match had four singles matches reach the third set, two of which were decided by a tiebreaker.

The Lady Owls found themselves in a 2-0 hole early after dropping the doubles point and the first singles match. That's when FAU struck back. Karolina Roubickova got the ball rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nid Waseem at no. 2. Next, Tania Rivera dropped a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, victory over Allison Ashley at no. 3 and the match was tied at 2-2.

Meanwhile, at no. 1, Alena Dvorakova was in a battle that caused both players to receive treatment from the hot conditions. In the end, Dvorakova, the reigning A-Sun Player-of-Week, clawed her way to a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 victory. The win gave the Lady Owls a 3-2 lead.

Unfortunately for FAU, BC had one last haymaker left. The Eagles went on to win the last two matches in an exhausting win.

In doubles, Dvorakova and Roubickova paired to get the lone FAU victory, 8-5.
