BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University softball team was recently named Palm Beach County's "Volunteer Group of the Year" by the Special Olympics.

The award will be given at the Special Olympics of Palm Beach's annual appreciation banquet on Saturday, November 14 at the Special Olympics of Palm Beach County headquarters, 2728 Lake Worth Road, in Lake Worth.

"Community service is something we really stress as a team and it's great to see that service recognized," said head softball coach Joan Joyce.

The team has volunteered at several Special Olympics events throughout the past year, including the organization's annual prom, as well as volunteering at bowling and softball tournaments.
