BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Ginny Matthews has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III University Division Softball Team. Matthews, a sophomore, is a member of the nationally-ranked FAU softball team.

Matthews, an exercise science major, is batting .292 for the Lady Owls with six homers and 28 RBIs and is coming off an Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament performance in which she batted .333 and was named to the All-Tournament team. Twice this season, the Boca Raton native has received A-Sun Player-of-the-Week honors. Matthews, an outfielder, is the only player to have started all 71 games this season.

FAU is currently 60-11 on the year and takes on Chattanooga Thursday in opening round action at the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee. The Lady Owls are the no. 1 seed in the six-team field as they seek their first trip to the College World Series.
