Myers Closer to National Honor

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's Nikki Myers has advanced to the next stage of capturing the USA Softball Collegiate Player-of-the-Year Award. Myers, who was part of the initial group of 25 finalists announced on April 12, is now among a list of 10 players, announced the Amateur Softball Association on Friday. Myers, a senior from St. Petersburg, FL, leads the nation in wins (31-5) and is among the top pitchers in strikeouts per seven innings (10.6) and ERA (0.67). At the plate, she leads FAU with a .387 batting average along with 11 homers, 15 doubles, and 48 walks. The ASA, the national governing body of softball in the United States, will announced three finalists on May 31 with the winner being announced on June 7. Florida Atlantic is currently ranked no. 10 in the nation and next takes on Florida State May 7 in a doubleheader in Tallahassee, FL. The Lady Owls will then head to Troy, AL to take part in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament beginning May 9. FAU, which has won five consecutive A-Sun titles, is the no. 1 seed and will face Jacksonville State in the opening round next Thursday at 10:00am EST.
