Owls Split with Golden Knights

March 29, 2005

Box Score

ORLANDO, FL - Florida Atlantic University split an Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader with UCF Tuesday afternoon in Orlando, FL. The Owls lost the first game, 4-1, before coming back to take game two, 3-2. Jessica Braggins, Jenn Piazza, Jennifer Cavanaugh, and Jenna Lopez all drove in runs for FAU (21-25, 2-2 A-Sun). Piazza went 3-for-6 on the day.

In the first game, UCF's Lindsay Enders hit a first inning grand slam to account for all of the Golden Knights' scoring. FAU came back in the third when Braggins drove in the Owls' only run. Meghan Doonan (8-9) took the loss for the Owls, allowing the four runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

In the second game, FAU broke a scoreless tie with all three of its runs in the third. Piazza, Cavanaugh, and Lopez all drove in runs in consecutive at-bats.

Jania Shinhoster's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth pulled UCF to within 3-2, but FAU's Ashley Greene closed the door the rest of the way.

Greene (4-6) finished with a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Pam Mazzarella, Lopez, and Braggins all collected two hits in the doubleheader.

Florida Atlantic next hosts Belmont Thursday night in a doubleheader at 6:00pm.
