![]() FAU Splits Saturday at FIU Tourney
March 3, 2001 MIAMI - Florida Atlantic University softball team split two games, Saturday afternoon, at the Florida International University Golden Panther Invitational. The Lady Owls defeated the University of Arkansas, 2-1 in 8 innings, but later fell to Ohio State University, 4-3. FAU will enter Sunday's round with a 14-6 record. Junior left fielder Nynia Ybarra drove in the winning run for FAU in the bottom half of the eighth. Offensively, Nicole Myers was 2-for-2, including a homer in the bottom of the fourth Myers also pitched a complete game one- hitter to record her seventh win of the short season and improve her record to 7-4. It was her second one-hitter in as many days. The team returned to the field only to fall to OSU. Ybarra first game heroics continued with a 1-for-3 plate performance. Her lone hit was her first homer of the season. She belted it in the top of the sixth to bring FAU within one of the Buckeyes. Heather Wright was 2-for-3 with one run scored and three stolen bases in the game. Kristie Picon started the game for FAU and took her first loss of the season after giving way to Nyers with one out in the fifth. She gave up three runs on five hits. Myers completed the game and saw FAU flirt with a victory.
The final round of the FIU Golden Panther Invitational will begin 8 am, Sunday. Opponents have yet to be
determined.
