Softball Records Two Shutouts
Feb. 24, 2001 BOCA RATON, FL - Two shutouts on Saturday at the FAU "Worth" Invitational propelled Florida Atlantic University Saturday in Boca Raton, FL. The Lady Owls defeated Illinois 10-0 in the afternoon before blanking Maryland 4-0 in the nightcap. The victories improve FAU to 8-4 overall and extend FAU's winning streak to four game. Nicole Myers went 5-of-6 on the day with two homers and four RBIs and pitched a one-hitter in FAU's 4-0 victory over Maryland. Myers struck out eight against the Terrapins as she improved to 5-3 on the year. In the third inning with FAU leading 1-0, Myers connected for her second home run of the day, a two-run blast, to give herself all the runs she would need. Against Illinois, Kristen Stanley's grand slam in the bottom of the sixth gave the Lady Owls a 10-0 lead and the victory. Stanley went 2-for-4 in the game. Nicole Myers went 3-for-4 with a homer along with two runs and two RBIs. Kristen Stanley went 2-of-4 with four RBIs while Kim Nicosia had two hits and two RBIs. Chris Sutcliffe improved to 2-1, allowing just five hits in six innings of work. The tournament concludes Sunday at FAU. The Lady Owls will face the winner of Illinois/FAMU Sunday morning at 10:00am.
