Tallahassee, Fl - Tallahassee, Fl Florida Atlantic women's softball team defeats two ranked opponents at the FSU Seminole Challenge and move to 7-1 on the season.

The Lady Owls handed No. 15 Florida State their first loss of the season late Friday night with a 4-2 win. FAU then turned around and beat No. 22 South Carolina 1-0, in their only game on Saturday.

On Friday, Senior left-fielder Ninya Ybarra led off the game with a triple down the rightfield line and later scored on a ground out by senior pitcher Nicole Myers, to give the Lady Owls a 1-0 lead. FAU extended the lead to 4-0 by scoring a run in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Junior right-fielder Michelle Shirah led off the fifth with a double down the leftfield line and later scored on a FSU error. Myers led off the sixth with a double and later scored on a RBI single by freshman first baseman Pam Mazzarella. In the seventh, sophomore center fielder Ginny Matthews scored on a RBI single by senior catcher Heather Wright.
 

 

Myers went the distance on the mound giving up two runs on six hits while striking out a season high 13 batters. With the win Myers improved to 4-0 on the season.

Against South Carolina, Myers was again dominate on the mound. The senior went seven innings, giving up four hits, no runs, and striking out eleven. Myers now 5-0 on the season is just four strikeouts away from 1000 in her career.

FAU scored the only run they would need in the fourth inning. Center-fielder Heather Wright doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore catcher Callie Piper.

The Lady Owls will play their final game of the tournament on Sunday, 10:00am against the University of Louisville.
