Coyne Recognized Nationally

Nov. 29, 2005

BOCA RATON, FL -- Megan Coyne was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III University Division First Team earlier this month.

Coyne, a communications major sporting a 3.87 grade-point average, finished second in the nation in goals-against average, allowing just 0.273 goals per game. She allowed just three goals all season, one during the second overtime against Virginia Commonwealth, and two in the final five minutes of play against Florida State in the opening round of the Women's College Cup. The Marysville, WA native held opponents scoreless for 745 minutes, the 13th longest streak on record in the history of the NCAA.

The junior keeper helped an Owl defense break several school records, including shutouts (16), consecutive games without a loss (15), consecutive shutouts (9), consecutive home shutouts (8 this season, 15 overall), and goals allowed (11).

Coyne earned Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors in 2004 and A-Sun First-Team All-Conference honors this season.
