The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team gained valuable experience on the field, improving throughout the 2009 fall season.

Winning three of its last seven matches, the Owls finished with a 5-13-1 overall record and were 3-7-1 in Sun Belt Conference matches.

Head Coach Brian Dooley is hoping to improve the squad in a few areas to get FAU back atop the league.

"We know what we have to improve on to get back to the top half of the league," said Dooley. "We will be working on our technical position so that we can have more possessions."

One of the team's standouts was freshman goalkeeper Ashley Lantes, who concluded her first season by leading the conference in saves (135) and saves per match (7.50).

"Ashley got some valuable experience, which will help her development going forward," said Dooley.

The future also looks bright, as freshman Meghan Brown led the team with three goals on the season, including a goal in each of the Owls' league victories. Freshman Jamie Greany added three assists, and junior Laura Hyvonen attempted a team-best 31 shots.
