Lehtinen, Tirelli Named to All-Tournament Team

Nov. 5, 2006

LAFAYETTE, LA -- Susanna Lehtinen and Alicia Tirelli were named members of the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament team for their efforts during the conference tournament, the conference office announced Saturday following the championship game.

Lehtinen, a junior from Espoo, Finland, fired three shots, one on goal, in the Owls opening round match-up with Western Kentucky. She was credited with one shot attempt in the second-round loss to Denver.

The junior finished 2006 with five goals and eight assists on the season, and was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team earlier in the week. She also led FAU in shot attempts (46) and shots on goal (23) and went 2-for-2 in penalty kicks and had two game-winning goals.

Tirelli, also a junior, scored the game-winning goal with just 65 seconds left on the clock in FAU's 1-0 opening round victory. She had two shot attempts versus DU.

The Brandon, FL native led the Owls in goals and points in 2006, scoring 11 times while assisting on five goals for a season total of 27 points. She fired 44 shots on the season, 22 on goal, the second and third most on the team, respectively. She also led Florida Atlantic in game-winning goals with three.

The Owls (11-8-2) ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak, which extended to seven following the opening-round win over WKU. Their season came to a close when Denver scored a pair of early goals and held on for a 2-0 win. The Pioneers were the eventual conference champions, and had the most members of the All-Tournament Team (four).

DU's Taryn Hemmings, earlier named the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, was also named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player with five goals in three contests.
