Oct. 13, 2009
The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team looks to win its first road match of the fall when it travels to Alabama for a pair of Sun Belt Conference (SBC) matches this weekend. The Owls will play at Troy University on Friday, October 16 at 4 p.m. and at the University of South Alabama on Sunday, October 18 at 1 p.m.. FAU is 3-10-2 for the season and 1-5 in SBC play, and still controls its own fate with hopes to become one of eight teams to qualify for the SBC championship tournament in Boca Raton from Wednesday, November 4 through Saturday, November 7. The Owls' next four matches will be against teams also competing for a lucrative berth in the postseason tournament. FAU picked up its first SBC victory of the season with a 4-1 triumph over the University of Louisiana-Monroe on October 9 at FAU Soccer Stadium. Freshman forward Jamie Greany paced the offense, contributing to all four goals. She scored her first collegiate goal late in the first half and also added three assists in the match. Greany tied for the most assists in a SBC match this season. The Owls lost with a score of 2-0 to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on October 18. Troy enter Friday's match with a 6-7-1 record after dropping weekend matches at the University of Denver with a score of 1-0, and at the University of North Texas with a score of 2-0. The Trojans have been held scoreless in their last three matches. The team stands 2-4 in league play with victories coming over Western Kentucky University with a score of 1-0, and the University of Arkansas-Little Rock with a score of 2-0. Bridget Duke anchors the offensive attack with five goals, while Mary Morris and Jill Pinder each have added four goals.
South Alabama continues to search for its first conference victory as the Jaguars enter this weekend with a 0-5-1 league record, while being 2-11-1 overall. The team is coming off a 4-0 loss at Denver on October 18. The team is led by Brandi Smith with six goals scored and Liz Clark adding five assists.
