Women's Soccer Searches for Sun Belt Victories against Louisiana Universities
The Owls' search for their first Sun Belt Conference victory on Friday at 7 p.m. against Louisiana-Monroe

The Owls' search for their first Sun Belt Conference victory on Friday at 7 p.m. against Louisiana-Monroe

Oct. 7, 2009

Searching for its first Sun Belt Conference (SBC) victory of the season, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team concludes a four-match home stand against University of Louisiana-Monroe on Friday, October 9 at 7 p.m. and University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday, October 11 at 11:30 a.m. at FAU Soccer Stadium.

FAU, with a 2-9-2 record, is coming off shutout losses to two of the SBC's premiere teams. The Owls recently fell 2-0 to the University of North Texas and lost 3-0 to the University of Denver, the league's defending regular season and tournament champions. Those setbacks dropped FAU's record to 0-4 in conference action.

FAU is familiar with slow starts in SBC play. Since joining the league in 2006, the Owls never have posted a winning-record through the first four of their conference matches. FAU was 2-2 after four conference encounters in 2007.

FAU freshman goalkeeper Ashley Lantes leads the SBC with 82 saves and has made eight or more saves in six matches this season. She recorded nine saves during the match on October 4.

ULM stands 1-2 in league play, with the lone win coming at home against the University of Arkansas-Little Rock with a score of 2-0 on October 2. ULM enters this weekend with a 2-7-1 overall mark. Leading the team is Lindsey Tubbs, who has scored a team-best three goals and recorded eight points on the season. Britnie Markham is the other scoring threat, with two goals on the season. ULM has been outscored 32-10 and is allowing nearly three goals per match.

ULL searches for its first win on the season after being 0-11-1 overall and 0-4 in SBC action this fall. The Ragin Cajuns have been outscored 14-4 in conference matches, but fell 3-2 in its last match on October 4 to UALR. Kelli Jestes and Courtney Hofland have accounted for half of the team's eight goals on the season, with each putting two shots into the back of the opposing team's net.

FAU swept both of the Louisiana universities in road matches in 2008, defeating ULM in a high-scoring encounter, 4-3, and picking up a 2-1 victory over ULL.
