Owls Begin A-Sun Title Hunt
Sept. 15, 2005 BOCA RATON, FL - With a tough non-conference schedule out of the way, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team can now focus on winning the Atlantic Sun Conference title. FAU opens it's A-Sun schedule at home on Friday against conference newcomer North Florida. "We're excited to get into the conference games. We realize this will be the path that gets us into the NCAA Tournament," head coach Brian Dooley said. "We're very happy with where we are right now. This has been the toughest opening six games we've ever played. We feel we are where we need to be heading into conference play." The Owls (3-3) will face the Ospreys Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on FIU Sunday at 7 p.m. in Miami. The FIU game will be the beginning of a four-game stretch on the road. Meanwhile, sophomore forward Susanna Lehtinen still sits atop the A-Sun leaderboard in several statistical categories, including goals, points, points per game, and game-winning goals. She has scored five goals in six games for ten points (1.67/game). Two of the goals were game-winners. Junior goalkeeper Megan Coyne leads the A-Sun in goals against average with 0.32. She has allowed just one goal in four appearances this season and has registered two shutouts. Following last weekend's play at the VCU Invitational, three Owls were named to the All-Tournament Team. They included Lehtinen, senior midfielder Denise Brolly and junior defender Meredith White.
