FAU Women's Soccer Plays Eastern Michigan on Sunday
Sept. 9, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team returns to action on Sunday, September 14 at noon, when they host the Eastern Michigan University Eagles at FAU Field, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Eastern Michigan @ Florida Atlantic FAU (1-2-0) played on Sunday, August 31, losing 2-0 to the University of Miami in Coral Gables - the same team that EMU will play on Friday, September 12. EMU (2-1-2) is making a two-match, weekend road swing through South Florida. The Eagles return nine starters from its 2007 squad that finished 7-8-4 and 5-4-2 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). "I hope we can get in a good rhythm and establish possession," says head coach Brian Dooley about Sunday's match with EMU. "Also hoping to find that scoring touch before we get into conference play." The Owls are 64-22-3 at home, spanning Dooley's nine years as head coach. Dooley's teams historically have been tough on opposing offenses, leading the nation in 2006 with 16 shutouts in 21 games and posting nine shutouts in 2007. FAU's 2008 defensive unit is anchored by senior all-conference defender Janeke Simpkins. Sophomore forward Anhnhi Tran has netted both of FAU's two goals this season, including the game-winner against Indiana State University on Friday, August 29. FAU plays Stetson University on Friday, September 19 and the University of South Florida on Sunday, September 21 before Sun Belt Conference play begins with a home match against Western Kentucky University on Friday, September 26.
