![]() Owls Welcome Hurricanes, Hatters to FAU Field
Sept. 5, 2006 BOCA RATON, FL -- The Miami Hurricanes and Stetson Hatters travel to Boca Raton as the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team begins a six-game home stand. The Hurricanes currently sit at 4-0-0, with a scheduled game vs. Florida International on Wednesday. The Owls dropped a 2-1 decision last season at the hands of the Hurricanes, but have held the advantage each of the previous three seasons. The past four contests have been close, with one-goal margins deciding each game. The 4-0-0 mark is the second-best all-time in Miami history, and they could match their best start with a win at FIU. The Hurricanes are currently outscoring their opponents by nearly two goals per game. The Miami offense brings a diverse attack, with seven different players scoring its' nine goals. The defense is led by junior goalkeeper Lauren McAdam who has a pair of shutouts on the season and has allowed just two goals in the team's first four games. Head coach Brian Dooley feels that Miami brings out the best in his squad. "We've had some success in the past, but last year they beat us. They're off to an undefeated start and have beaten some good teams and I think it's a game that they take seriously," he said. On Sunday, the Owls will welcome a familiar face to FAU Field. Former conference foe Stetson will travel to Boca Raton for a 2 p.m. start. The Hatters sit at 1-3-0 after recently picking up their first win of the season versus LeSalle, 2-0. The Owls are 13-7 all-time versus Stetson, and have won the past seven meetings. The Hatters offense has three goals on the season, one each by Jessica Spencer, Emily Ware, and Kelsey Kramer. April Eilering has gotten the start in goal in each of the Hatters' first four games, posting one shutout while allowing five goals and making 22 saves. Both games are scheduled as part of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader, with the women's team playing the back half on both days. The men play Mercer on Friday at 5 p.m., and Binghamton on Sunday at noon.
