Former Women's Soccer Player Trying Out with Philadelphia Charge

March 12, 2003

Lincoln, NE. - Former Florida Atlantic University women's soccer player Trina Maso de Moya became the first athlete from FAU to play in the Women's United Soccer Association with her appearance in the Philadelphia Charge's first exhibition game of the preseason. Maso de Moya is trying out with the Charge and scored a goal against the University of Nebraska.

The Charge defeated the Cornhuskers 4-2 only after Philadelphia took control in the final 15 minutes of the game. French national team forward Marinette Pichon scored the game-winning goal with 11 minutes remaining and shortly after that Maso de Moya caught Nebraska keeper Brooke Bredenberg out of the goal for the final goal of the match.

Maso de Moya is competing against three Charge first round picks, fourth overall pick Hope Solo from the University of Washington, sixth overall pick Deliah Arrington from Clemson University and seventh overall pick Mary McVeigh from Dartmouth University, for a roster spot.

Maso de Moya, a graduate student from Ft. Lauderale, recently completed her only season with the Lady Owls. The Atlantic Sun First Team All-Conference player finished the year with a school record 19 goals and 41 points en route to leading the Lady Owls to their first ever share of the regular season title.
