Women's Soccer Upset by Jacksonville 3-2 :: Christina Chang records first career multi-goal game

Buies Creek, N.C. - For the third time in five years, Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer team was eliminated from the Atlantic Sun Tournament by Jacksonville University, losing 3-2 in the first round Thursday evening. Christina Chang recorded her first career multi-goal game as the Lady Owls end the season 11-4-3, the fewest wins since the 1999 season.

"This is a tough game to talk about," said head coach Brian Dooley. "We had the lead twice but gave up bad goals. [Christina] Chang had two beautiful goals and gave us a great effort up top but we gave up bad goals at the wrong time and in the wrong setting."

Bringing up memories of past, JU's Daniela Davila scored on a free kick from 30-yards out to give the Dolphins the win. Davila's long shot from the left flank caromed off the upper right post and past Megan Coyne into the net.

Two years ago, on the same field, JU scored off a free kick to send the game into overtime where they eventually won to upset FAU. Davila's winner came just 45 seconds after she assisted on the game-tying goal for JU (5-8-5).

The Owls nearly scored in the 17th minute when Katri Nokso-Kovisto's effort from 18 yards took a deflection before hitting the left post. FAU broke in front just one minute later on Chang's fourth goal of the year. Denise Brolly slipped the ball behind the JU back line and Chang beat keeper Michelle Kmiotek inside the left post.

Chang's second strike of the game, on a 65th minute volley from Michele Fazzari's service, put the Lady Owls in front 2-1. However, the lead lasted just 4:25 as Jenny Borschel nodded home Davila's 69th minute corner.

The Lady Owls faced a one-player disadvantage for 20:45 of the second half after Cristina Rodriguez was given a second yellow card. FAU held a 14-5 edge in shots on the night, 7-1 in the opening period and led the corner kick battle 8-2.

FAU ends the season with 18 program records either broken or tied, seven all-conference selections and Susanna Lehtinen being named the A-Sun Freshman-of-the-Year.
