FAU Rolls Into Sun Belt Tournament with 2-0 Win at FIU
Nov. 3, 2007
MIAMI, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team look primed and ready for the Sun Belt Conference tournament after posting their fourth straight shutout victory, a 2-0 decision over Florida International University on Friday night. Susanna Lehtinen has scored in each of the final four games to close the regular season for FAU, adding to that total with her ninth goal of the year early in the second half. The senior scoring dynamo gathered a loose ball in front of the net, pounding home a rebound for a 1-0 Owls lead. The team is 6-2 in games where Lehtinen scores a goal. Janeke Simpkins put the game away in the 74th minute with a shot into the lower left corner of the net, marking the junior defender's first goal of the season. Jessica Badders was solid and steady again in net, turning in her ninth win - and ninth shutout - of the 2007 campaign. The junior goalkeeper made four saves in the game. Florida Atlantic (9-7-2, 6-4-1 Sun Belt) clinched the sixth seed in the Sun Belt Conference tournament with the win, and will face third-seeded Denver (10-4-4, 7-2-2 Sun Belt) in first-round play on Wednesday. The Owls earned a 1-0 home victory over the Pioneers on October 5 in their regular season meeting.
Game time is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, to be played at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL.
