Women's soccer unbeaten streak at nine with a 7-1 win over UT-Martin

Martin, TN - Martin, TN Florida Atlantic women's soccer team concludes regular season on a nine game unbeaten streak with a 7-1 win over UT-Martin.

The visiting Owls built a 4-0 halftime lead and then added three second half goals on the way to the 7-1 victory at Skyhawk field.

FAU started the scoring in the 23rd minute as sophomore Rhonda Jones scored her first of two goals off a deflection from the keeper. The Owls added their second and third goals in a span of one minute 21 seconds to build the commanding lead. Freshmen Lisa Rife scored her first collegiate goal with an assist going to junior Lisanne Peart. Freshmen Janine Aylward scored her fifth goal of the season with assists going to freshmen Kari Kaiser and Rife. Peart added he sixth goal of the season, unassisted, in the 35th minute to finish the FAU scoring in the first half.
 

 

The Skyhawks scored their lone goal of the game on a penalty kick by Sherrie Weeks in the 37th minute.

Rhonda Jones opened the scoring in the second half with her second of the game and fifth of the season off a corner kick by freshmen Kelly Hoffmann. Sophomore defender Krista Fine then tallied her first goal of the season, unassisted on a breakaway. Rounding out the scoring was Hoffmann who added her third goal of the season off a cross from freshmen Stefanie Buckholt.

FAU outshot UT-Martin 26-9 for the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Molly Keating made five saves before giving way to freshmen goalkeeper Christine Lilly late in the second half.

FAU has now won eight games in a row and finishes the regular season at 12-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the Atlantic Sun. Next up for the lady Owls will be the A-Sun Conference tournament at UCF, November 8-10.
